COCIJO
This new collection of artworks is an homage to dual cosmoses: the reduced geometric forms of Mexican modernist architect Luis Barragán, particularly, his innovative interplay between color, shadow, and light, interwoven with the enduring spiritual meaning and symbolism of Mesoamerican color theologies.
Cocijo, the Zapotec namesake and deity of lightning, embodies fertility, harvest, and abundance. Plant-dye colors, as a physical manifestation of Mayan divinity, thus carry potent significance and cosmological meaning: each hue is linked to its own planet, cardinal direction, and spirit animal.
These works reflect the inseparable relationship between form, color, and symbolism as a unified expression of cultural identity.
